SFC Leroy A. Petry to receive the Medal of Honor

Next month, President Obama will be awarding the Medal of Honor to Sergeant First Class Leroy Arthur Petry for the actions he took to save his soliders while under attack in Paktya, Afghanistan on May 26, 2008. He was wounded – shot through both legs – and under small arms and grenade fire when, after a first grenade detonated about 10 meters from him and his soldiers, another grenade landed within reach, and without thought for his well being, he grabbed the grenade and attempted to throw it away. The grenade detonated as he was releasing it taking his right hand in the blast.

Leroy will be one of two living MoH recipients from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and will join the seven others that have been awarded the MoH posthumously in those engagements.

Hooah!

But my understanding of this is that they would not rule out military response for attacks that disrupt essential systems like nuclear plants, electrical grid systems, or emergency systems. We’ll learn more as it happens.

UFC 130 wasn’t the greatest lineup of fights on paper, but the fights that happened were actually quite good. A couple of upsets, a few obvious outcomes, and some great lightweight fights after all the main events as usual.

The biggest upset of the night was Rick ‘Horror’ Story’s dominance over heavily favored Thiago Alves. Alves was unable to to keep Story away from him and Story beat him into the fence over and over. Story’s victory completely changes the Welterweight rankings and moves him above Alves and one step closer to meeting the man at the top – Georges St. Pierre.

Brian Stann had a great fight, winning over Jorge Santiago in two rounds by way of TKO. Stann is a graduate of Annapolis’ Naval Academy, a former Marine Captain and Silver Star recipient for valor in combat. Semper Fi!
