hurt

it's ineffective in what it's trying to accomplish, and degrading to everyone on both ends.

I agree. It hurts us all in the long run. It says in an underlying way that minorities don't have what it takes to make it in this "white society", so we need to give them this extra boost so they don't feel like they are being discriminated against and at the same time don't have to lift a finger to get anything.

I believe that anyone in this world, no matter what their background or skin color can be motivated to work hard, study hard, obey the law and achieve great things in life. To never try to achieve and then blame it on "the system" is just cheating yourself.

Well, one of the women in my class said that it was needed because "African-Americans don't have the ability to stand up for themselves." and then quoted MLK that it is hard enough for a black person to live in dignity.

right, well tell that lady that as long as she doesn't have her crack pipe showing, she SHOULD be just fine.. most of the people that I work for are black. And I work for the State Department, so SOMEONE was doing SOMETHING right.

While I dont agree with affirmative action, I do find it funny that white america has such an easy time passing off the struggle of minorities in this country by saying they need to get over it etc. Until you've been there you cant 100% comprehend. Racism as a whole is ridiculous in this country and it now goes BOTH ways, so maybe now people are getting a small taste of what its like. My point is that untill we address the underlying issues non of this stuff is going to stop.

Example: Krammer.....yeah his whole little tirade he had. I heard people say "if that was a black comedian no one would be complaing, thats bullshit its not fair!" It's also not fair that racism was and is here but we all have to deal with it.

I for one feel that the race card is USED WAAAAAAAAAAY to much, but I also feel that many people discredit real racism and refuse to acknowledge it still exsisit.

*Call me stupid* but uhhh What exactly is "Affirmative Action"? I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but I want to be sure before I spout something out....

Short and simplified, it's programs to overcome the effects of past societal discrimination by allocating jobs and resources to members of specific groups, such as minorities and women. You can get the full background on what it is here http://education.yahoo.com/reference/encyclopedia/entry/affirmat.

It's probably needed because we have so many ignorant tards in this country that refuse to learn no ways or change there old ways. But I also think it hurts b/c it does take away jobs and other things from ppl who truly deserve it and it gives to someone unqualified so they can fill a slot.

So true! As a police officer, I always hear the comments mostly from blacks-"You're stopping/arresting/harassing me because I'm black." I have learn to let that stuff roll off my back, because I hear it at least once a week. I also hear whites- "That n***** this or that....". It pisses me off to hear anyone saying anything derogatory about anyone else's race. God knows I'm anything but racist. I was with a black girl for 3 freaking years, LOL.

I have alot of black friends and coworkers that realize that they can go as far in life as anyone else if they just set their mind to it, and they have done just that. They don't try to sit back, play the system, expect to have everything handed to them, then blame the system when things don't work out and they get arrested for breaking the law. That is the attitude that keeps a majority of blacks in poverty.

If only we could get the Hawaiians out of the racial mindset. You can't win with those guys... They're Americans, sure but still... Hawaiian see themselves as just that, not American.. Kinda like Sicilians. You call them Italian you could end up with a knife between your ribs...

yea, hawaiians arent really all that friendly to the rest of america. ive known a lot from my time in the af, and they dont like most people not from the island. ive always gotten along awesome with them though, but i think its because im from florida. really. they also hate people from california.
